Clinical Art Therapist

Role Description

The Art Therapist will provide individual/ couples/ family/ group clinical art therapy and non-clinical therapeutic art interventions. They may provide community/ organizational/ institutional art-making activities. The Art Therapist will work closely with the Board of Directors. They will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to advance the mission of the organization. Supervision will be provided if you are an ATR-P and/or Associate-level therapist.

Location:

You must be located in Los Angeles and willing to commute weekly to zip code 90042 + you can do CA telehealth

or virtually if you are a licensed MHC or MFT in WA

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Art Therapy, Expressive / Creative Arts Therapies from an accredited institution

  • Credentialed (ATR-P, ATR, ATR-BC) or similar

  • Licensed as a Mental Health / Professional Counselor (LMHC/LPCC) or LMFT (Associate-level applicants also accepted) in WA and/or CA

  • 1 year clinical experience serving diverse clientele (internship acceptable)

  • Strong knowledge of multicultural competencies & cultural humility in art therapy

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Ability to be supervised and accept feedback

  • Has an active personal art practice

  • Has 10+ years work experience (in any position)

  • Has a computer with reliable internet

  • Has reliable means of transportation and is able to travel for events

  • Able to work legally in the United States

  • Accepting of transgender individuals/can navigate they/them pronouns

Highly-desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish or any other language)

  • Is social justice oriented

  • Familiarity with LGBTQ+ and disability justice issues a plus

  • Grant-writing or fundraising experience a major plus

  • Has/ had a private practice/ willing to learn how to run your own practice

  • Experience working in a community setting and/or doing political activism

  • Have done marketing in any capacity

  • Member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA)

  • Desire to be part of the Board of Directors

  • Is interested in art, the private practice setting, and/or Adlerian Psychology

  • Can do outreach as part of their non-clinical hours

  • Has the ability to be supervised & trained in platforms like EHR

  • Has a site supervisor

  • Accepts feedback with grace and without defensiveness

  • Responds to email & text in a timely fashion

  • Mature, engages in self-regulation and -care

  • Wants to work with queer folks & trauma

  • May want to get EMDR-trained during their internship

  • Will complete notes in 24 hours of session

  • Can communicate outside of working hours in urgent situations

  • Enrolled in a graduate program in the U.S.

  • 5+ years work experience, in any role

  • Is prompt or early

  • Is accepting of transgender and LGBTQ+ individuals; can navigate “they” pronouns

  • Has taken a multicultural competency course or is willing to do a CEU

  • Likes art

  • Wants to stay on after internship

  • Is pursuing ATR-P upon graduation

  • Wants to do social media for ATFA

  • Passionate about social justice

  • Is willing to take part in attracting their own clients through platforms and networking (you will be trained)

Position: Board Member

Location:

You can be located anywhere. You must be able to work remotely using reliable Internet and your own computer.

Hours:

The hours commitment for this role vary. Quarterly meetings are 1.5 hours. The board member can take on special projects in addition to meetings and voting.

Ideal candidate:

  • Knows something about art therapy or is willing to find out

  • Can commit to 1.5 hours quarterly for online meetings of the board

  • Responds to email in a timely fashion

  • Self-motivated

  • Can manage their own time (except when projects are pressing) without prompting

  • Navigates computers & various software with ease (Google Suite, Microsoft Office)

Highly desired skills:

  • Values art

  • Advertising/Marketing

  • Grant writing and/or fundraising

  • Event planning

  • Is a member of the healthcare community

  • Has existing community partnerships and/or experience with philanthropy

  • Social media literacy

  • Familiarity with or interest in political advocacy

  • Finance knowledge, investments,

  • Nonprofit experience

  • Is a member of the AATA

  • Can attend other meetings and take on special projects
